To fall in love is a magical experience.
But in order to fall in love with your life, you must fall in love with the process as well. Sounds great but how do you do this?
Our attitude and perspective on everything in our lives influences our outlook. We all go through times in our life where we see the glass half empty or half full. It’s important to regularly take a moment to really think about how we are approaching our lives. Through what lens are you looking through.
For example, maybe you wake up on Monday morning and you’re dreading going into the office and starting your day. Do you know how much that impacts your entire day? And even before you get to your workplace; it shapes and molds how you feel and it changes your entire experience.
One of the things I’ve found time and time again is that our mindset determines our experiences. If you start off in a bad mood, it doesn’t mean that you have to carry that throughout the day, you have a choice at all times. If we can cultivate the habit to be mindful of our mindset at the start of the day, then we can fall in love with the process.
What Stories Are You Telling Yourself?
We all have to do things we don’t like to do. That’s just part of life. The stories we tell ourselves about the things that we don’t want to do make them that much more difficult. That’s why meditative practices and bringing more consciousness and awareness to our lives is so beneficial. It helps us stay in the moment and create in the present moment. A lot of times we are either mentally in the future or we are in the past. We must come to the present moment.
Back to the dread about Monday morning… Not everyone has the same story. But if you are telling yourself when you get out bed on Monday morning that it is going to be a tough day…. Well it’s going to be tough. For some people it is even worse when you are coming back from vacation or holiday when you’ve had a few weeks off. By telling ourselves a story about how dreadful it’s going to be, we can set ourselves up mentally, emotionally, and even our physiology for being miserable.
You’ll hear people talk about how tired and exhausted they are, even though they’ve just had a couple of days (or even weeks) away from work. This is completely opposite of how they felt during their time off when they were energetic and doing fun activities. They were living in the moment and enjoying life.
Most people don’t bring that joy to work on Monday morning. Instead, they have the Monday morning ritual of starting their day dragging their feet and anticipating another melancholy Monday.
You Have the Power to Change Your Story
Think about how you can start your day by telling yourself a different story. Change the tape you’re playing to yourself. Change the thoughts you’re thinking and the actions you’re taking. Reevaluate your morning rituals. If you’re doing things right now that bring a negativity or a heaviness to your day, you’re adding more reasons and excuses from the external world on why you need to be in a bad mood. These are all things that we have control over. We have the choice on how we respond and react to things.
Having a good morning ritual will help you fall in love with the process. Your morning ritual will put you in the right mindset and prepare you for good things to happen. You will create a completely different experience that is more positive and uplifting. A good-feeling experience is at your fingertips at all times, despite what is happening in the external world.
Our ability to control our internal experience will positively influence the external world.
Have you ever met a person that is always cheerful? They come into the office with a smile on their face and they are always in a good mood. The energy of the whole room has a palpable change for the better as soon as they walk in. They are either consciously or unconsciously doing something to maintain that state of well-being within them and it radiates outwards. These are the people that when you are around them, you feel energized. You can feel their love and compassion and more than likely, if you ask them, they love their life.
Fall In Love With Your Life
If you want to fall in love with your life, learn how to love the process. Sometimes we can’t see the big picture and we tend to get caught up with all the little speed bumps along the way. If you are not mindful, it can knock the wind out of your sails and leave you feeling drained. Maybe it’s time to hit the reset button and recenter yourself.
What is it that you can do right now to fall in love with your life?
Think about an artist with a blank canvas. They may have a general idea in their mind what they want the finished piece to look like. In the moment of creating their masterpiece they aren’t worried about what the final result will be. They are in love with the process of creation. An artist doesn’t worry or have anxiety about what the end product will look like. They’re creating. Within the process of getting to the masterpiece is a beautiful journey from a blank canvas to a rough sketch and then, eventually, to the final product.
You are your own masterpiece in the making.
Falling in love with the process of the making, and the work, discipline and commitment it takes to get yourself there, that whole process of your life is what you’re working on. You’re creating every single day, every single moment. Learning to cultivate daily habits and rituals that will help support you are the key to learning how to fall in love with your life.
Being around people that encourage you and support you is a major factor in how you experience your life. If you are a leader maybe you can inspire people on your team, or around you, to have a more supportive vibe. Start by painting the picture for them – and painting a picture of the whole team – everyone to see things from a new perspective. Once you reframe things for others, it helps them get more motivated and inspired to have a positive attitude as well.
You can apply this to any aspect or area of your life, whether it’s a new workout program, a new meal plan, healthier habits, improving your business or your relationships. It can be applied to each and every area of your life.
Keep in mind this is a beautiful masterpiece that you are creating for yourself. You are your own masterpiece. And falling in love with the process means you fall in love with your life. This has huge benefits, not only for yourself, but for all of your loved ones, the people you work with and the people you are contributing with.
